The Project
Caleb Johnstone started the Writer in White as a medium for his own storytelling and a platform to engage with other stories, mediums, and storytellers. His hope is to share his work as a public portfolio for consumption and engagement as his technique and craft evolve. While creating, the platform will also be a way to share his experiences and lessons as a young writer, avid reader, and aspiring author, as well as for his reflections, insights, and perspectives on Dungeons and Dragons as both a player and Dungeon Master.
The Writer in White is a portfolio, a publishing medium, and a learning experiment all at the same time. While there was never a true “end goal” in mind, the greatest success is that the stories and pieces of art shared here reach an audience. Whether there is a great impact from the vulnerable truths and written stories remains to be seen, but unless it is shared, no one would know.

“Myth and fairy-story must, as all art, reflect and contain in solution elements of moral and religious truth (or error), but not explicit, not in the known form of the primary “real” world.”
— J.R.R. Tolkien

The Writer
Caleb is a 30 year old Canadian-American amateur writer and storyteller. His family emigrated from Canada to the United States in 1998. He currently lives in Oregon where he can take in the full beauty offered by the American Pacific Northwest.
Educated as a health and exercise professional at university and as a fitness and strength coach, his areas of expertise along with being an avid outdoorsman and athlete lends itself to a unique perspective and creativity within his storytelling. He brings a physical element that is unusual to traditional writing, providing a deep immersion and familiarity in his work.
Passionate about storytelling and storytellers, he is a lifelong reader, ambitious writer, and a TTRPG player. He grew up listening to and then reading books like Redwall, Chronicles of Narnia, and The Lord of the Rings. He continued to be drawn in stories, as well as expanding his interests to fields of mythology and legend, particularly on the epic scale. His dive into cooperative storytelling took a leap when his friends convinced him to join a D&D game in 2018, which opened up even more avenues for his creativity.
His dream is to write and share stories, creating art of significance. While the Writer in White has started as a passion project, the vision to take it to a more meaningful pursuit is always there, and someday might turn into a reality.
