The Wind

The wind is cold, but it leaves me warm

Heat blossoms in my chest, deeper even than my heart
For my hearts feels it, though it is not the source

A fulfilled yearning,
Something deep in my soul

I stand, the gentle roll of the deck beneath my feet
The lovely rock of the ocean
The distant pull of the blue horizon
The only sensation here in the wide spaces

The wind pulls at me, strong and steady
Not cutting, but constant and indifferent
It pulls, stripping away layers that I’ve been carrying so long that I’ve forgotten
I can almost see them,
Bright ribbons streaming off me,
Drawn away to vanish and dance upon the wind

I exhale, each breath a release, a letting go
I can feel them being stripped away
And I can feel myself once again becoming
With each breath I feel my soul settle,
I feel my heart steady,
A quieting of the rush and noise
As passing through a portal,
The passage over water and upon the wind
Brings change to my body, and to my soul
